The J.Heloise Story
J.Heloise (pronounced 'Hello-ease') got her start as a designer-illustrator for NYC-based company J.Crew, among other fashion brands. However, her passion for the arts began far earlier, with piano lessons starting at age 5, and award-winning performances in piano, voice & acting.
Her artistic journey was not a straightforward one.
During undergrad at Northwestern University, she found her fascination with the arts to be undeniable... but hadn't yet realized her potential as a "creative". She took her first formal art class while studying abroad in Paris, a learning experience that helped augment the watercolor "experiments" (self-teaching) she'd done at summer camp. But it wasn’t until her first semester of Fashion Drawing class at Parsons (NYC, AAS program), studying under accomplished teacher Laura Volpintesta, that she became certain that illustration and product design were indeed her future.
She spent 3 years working in NYC fashion, prior to relocating to Vermont for almost 8 years. In 2009, the brand J.Heloise was launched at the Burlington Vermont farmers/artist markets— what began as a small table of art landscape prints soon turned into a full line of greeting cards, at customers' requests. She gradually expanded the line, one art piece at a time, in her signature style -- bold lines & curves, harmonious color, and a simplicity that speaks.
(Read about her process at the blog).
As of 2023, over 5,000 greeting cards have been sold. The company's mission is to serve the public through good art & design -- and to remain focused on sustainability. While she is meticulous about her craft as an artist-illustrator, working in solitary moments...Heloise loves the chance to help people connect.
J.Heloise LLC is headquartered in Seattle, WA (formerly Jersey City, NJ). The year 2024 marks 15 years in business, & 18 years of experience as a working Artist.
The Artist's preferred name is Heloise.
"Art is a source of wisdom & joy for those who step into its magic," says Heloise, female CEO & founder.
