Perhaps the most majestic of Washington's peaks, Mt. Rainier seems to smile on Seattle... The Artist painted this piece in November of 2024. The richness of the Pacific Northwest's evergreen trees brought a wealth of color tones, from aqua to gold to deep navy's.

While the name "Rainier" has been commonly used since 1792, given by Captain Vancouver, after his friend Admiral Rainier... the original name given by the native peoples was Tahoma / Tacoma, meaning "Mother of All Waters." The phrase seems to capture the power & beauty of the peak.  This art piece honors the indigenous peoples & supports their wish to have the name restored.

Artist notes about the work:

"Every so often I get a work that comes to me whole, in a form that needs no fixing; just one step after the other, from a deeply intuitive place.  This doesn't happen each time I sit down to paint -- much of the learning is in trying & failing, overworking pieces, or completing them knowing they're mediocre.  But when you get that piece that truly makes use of all of your skills, where you're in pure enjoyment and focus while creating -- it's truly otherworldy.  Almost like the process of summiting a mountain itself."
